The large plains of East Africa are typical of the wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinu) whose appearance is somewhat different than that of an antelope. It is also known as gnu and can grow up to 1.26 m to 1.47 m and weigh 120 - 272 kg. These animals are well known for their annual migrations to new pastures. Such migrations have been documented by wildlife photographers and experts. During these migrations, a large number of these antelopes die while crossing the Mara river. Many of them are preyed upon by crocodiles and some die drowning in the waters and the cycle continues.
